An observational study of the Sea Breeze at an Equatorial Coastal station

The paper contains a preliminary study of the sea breeze at Thumba (08°32' N, 76° 52'E) based on observations 392 days, spread over period three years (1963-1966).
 
 Analysis hourly wind observation reveals that northeasterly or northerly land is replaced by westerly southwesterly before mid-day during October to May it also seen November April are favoured most Thumba. Southerly setting, late onset as well early cessation have been noticed few occasions. always above 5 kt after incidence and may vary maximum speed 22 oscillates between 180°-300° depending prevailing synoptic situation. vertical extent about 1 km 0.8 in summer winter respectively.
 frontal characteristics not very marked There no significant temperature fall associated with sudden see breeze, but slight rise relative humidity 5-10 percent recorded reversal illustrated an example giving tower pilot balloon data.
